UPDATE ON CHURCH STATUS

August 3, 2020

August 3, 2020

Dear Church Family,

As you have probably noticed, it doesn’t look like things will be returning to normal anytime soon.  With that said, here’s where we currently stand:

In-person services continue to take place on a scaled back basis; we are offering a worship service at 8:45 and again at 10:30.  Some have understood that it is necessary to “reserve” space, this is not the case.  We were asking about who planned to come so we could determine how many services we would need, as it turns out, two is enough.

Note that, under the Governor’s guidelines, social distancing and facemasks are still required.  Having said that, the church leadership has decided to leave the decision of how you will respond up to you as an adult.  Weigh the risks verses the advantages and decide for yourself what is best for you.

Given that this will cause some people to be uncomfortable gathering in person, we are also live-streaming the Sunday service at both 8:45 and 10:30.  You’ve probably noted that we have had some serious reliability issues with live-streaming.  We believe the issue might be with Facebook.  Therefore, starting this coming Sunday, 8/9/20, we will be live streaming to YouTube, the link is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Goe02Qnke10

A recording of the service will also be available later in the week.  That will be on our website at https://www.bccharstine.org/

For those coming to the church for services, we will not be offering refreshments after church.  Also, we are still not able to hold Adult Sunday School, Kid’s Church, or offer nursery services.  There’s just no way to maintain social distancing.  Parents are certainly welcome to sit with their infants in the nursery if they would like.  Alternatively, the kiddos are always welcome in the sanctuary with the adults.

The Thrive Youth Program remains on hold, Christie Johnson and I have been discussing what we can reasonably do to resume a ministry to our teens.  Contact Christie Johnson if you have any questions or suggestions, HIMyouth@outlook.com.

In terms of church finances, we remain in a healthy place.  This month we would have come in just about even between spending and giving.  However, the Missions Committee made a conscious decision to send additional financial help to CCCG in Guatemala since they’re really struggling with the impact of Covid 19.  That money came out of the Missions Committee reserves, but it makes it look like we spent more from the general budget than we actually did.  In reality, we did just fine for the month of July.  Again, I thank you for your faithfulness.

We will hold the annual business meeting on September 13th to vote on the proposed budget for 2020/2021, elect officers, discuss a proposed bylaw changes, and review ministry status.  We will be holding meetings after the 1st service and again after the 2nd service in order to make it more convenient to attend.  If you can safely make it, I encourage you to attend.  Unfortunately, the bylaws do not allow absentee ballots.  To change that would require a meeting. J

If you have specific needs, please call Pastor John and we’ll see what we can work out, the number at the church office is 360-426-6352.

We will continue to keep you posted as things develop.

UPDATE ON CHURCH STATUS

July 2, 2020

Dear Church Family,

I haven’t taken the time recently to send out any updates for a while, for that I apologize.  We are now in Phase III for reopening, which frankly will not help us that much.  Social distancing is still required, and that will drive how many people we can seat in the sanctuary.  Any move to Phase IV is on hold for now.  Therefore, here’s where we stand:

  1. In-person services are currently taking place.  We are offering a service at 8:45 and again at 10:30.  They “feel” strange due to the reduced seating and social distancing, but they are still a chance to gather as God’s people for worship.

    1. Note that, under the Governor’s guidelines, facemasks are required.

      1. Having said that, the church leadership has decided to leave that decision up to you as an adult.  Weigh the risks verses the advantages and decide for yourself what is best for you.

    2. Given that this will cause some people to be uncomfortable gathering in person, we are also live-streaming the Sunday service at 10:30.

      1. We ran into some technical difficulties last week that prevented live streaming, but those problems have been resolved and we expect to have it available on our facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/Bridge-Community-Church-127548923963098/?hc_location=ufi

      2. The recording will also be available later, at https://www.bccharstine.org/  I believe that there is also a link from this page to Facebook to catch the live streaming.

      3. Note that there will be singing.  Concerns have been raised over the spread of the virus through singing, so I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of this.  If you are uncomfortable with that, by all means, stay home and join us virtually.

    3. We will be sharing communion this week.  Special measures are being taken to protect those who will be present to participate.  If you’re going to be joining virtually, you might want to have the elements ready at home.

    4. We will not be offering refreshments after church, if this is your month to bring them there’s no need to worry about it.

    5. There will be no Adult Sunday School, Kid’s Church, or nursery offered.  Parents are certainly welcome to sit with their infants in the nursery if they would like.  This will likely remain the case until we’re in Phase 4.

  2. The Thrive Youth Program remains on hold, although I know that Christie Johnson has begun to explore what is possible for the teens during this time.  Contact Christie Johnson if you have any questions or suggestions, HIMyouth@outlook.com.

Other issues to be aware of:

  1. In terms of church finances, thank you, thank you, thank you, for your faithfulness!  We continue to enjoy the unexpected blessing of our giving exceeding our expense.  Rest assured, every expenditure is carefully considered.  We are slowly working our way out of the financial hole we were in a couple of months ago.  Again, I thank you for your faithfulness.

    1. Tithes, offerings, and gifts, can be made to the church through our website, www.bccharstine.org, or they can be mailed to Bridge Community Church, at 500 E North Island Drive, Shelton WA, 98584, or Pastor John will be at the office most of the time and you can drop offerings off there (we’ll maintain “social distancing” J).  Call ahead and make sure he’ll be there if you want to drop your offerings off at the church.

  2. Note that, much to Christie Johnson’s dismay, Vacation Bible School is officially cancelled for 2020.

  3. One thing we would like to encourage each of you to do is to reach out to five people from our church every week to help people remain connected.

  4. If you have specific needs, please call Pastor John and we’ll see what we can work out, the number at the church office is 360-426-6352.

We will continue to keep you posted as things develop.
